"NIGHT OF THE CHAMPIONS"
March 15th, 2008 - Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA

WOW! Over and over again ISCF Event representative Dan Stell would come back after being the event Representative on the Apex Xtreme Engagement LLC events and tell us how Great their events were up in Idaho. Well, this past weekend, I was able to witness it for myself, and Dan was 100% right! The AXE Team ROCKS!

The word has been going around over the last few months that Idaho has some GREAT Fighters, and now, Idaho can be proud to finally have a GREAT Promotion with Promoters that treat the fighters Professionally instead of taking advantage of them like another promotion we know about up there... All this great work is bringing out a lot of up and coming Super Stars of Mixed Martial Arts that no one outside of Idaho would have known about if not for the AXE-ISCF connection. Look out world, AXE is putting some GREAT Idaho Fighters ON THE MMA MAP! And they are doing it with CLASS!

John Sanders and Eric Judd who are the creative forces behind Team Apex Xtreme Engagement LLC have not only made the mental and physical commitment but the financial one as well. They already have a "Dynamite" 24 foot Hexagon Cage. However, they didn't stop there. Their most recent investment was in a $50K overhead light and sound system that is sure to add even more BANG to an already fantastic production. Mix-ups from the sound and lighting company they purchased the equipment from kept them from showing off the system on this event but fight fans can expect to see it at the next one.

There were plenty of spectators on hand to witness the action this past Saturday night too. Estimates had the crowd at around 1,600 -1,800 and maybe even more. Those Idaho Fight Fans deserve a round of applause as well. They were excited and loud the entire event which kept the fighters pumped to perform for them all night long. Enough of the Talk, lets get to the Walk! Here are the nights results below which saw the crowning of the first ever, ISCF Amateur Idaho State Champions!

  1. AMATEUR BANTAMWEIGHT
TJ Solomon (133) VS Darius Gardner (135)
WINNER: Darius Gardner at :54 seconds of Round 2 by submission tapout.

  2. AMATEUR "CATCH WEIGHT"

WINNER: Chaase Tabuso at 2:54 of Round 1

  3. AMATEUR MIDDLEWEIGHT
Eli Hobbs (172) VS David Goodwin (175)
WINNER: Eli Hobbs by Split decision, 30-27, 29-28 & 28-29.

  4. AMATEUR "CATCH WEIGHT"
Rob Radford (148) VS Mat Quinlan (156)
WINNER: Rob Radford by Unanimous Decision, 30-27 on all judges cards.

  5. AMATEUR MIDDLEWEIGHT
Riley Hamilton (183) VS Jason Foley (184)
WINNER: Riley Hamilton by KNOCK OUT at :44 seconds of Round 2.
One word to describe this outcome... WOW! What a Punch!
Jason Foley has been placed on a 45 day medical suspension by the ISCF.

  6. AMATEUR WELTERWEIGHT
Brent Warner (160) VS Cory Bridgewater (165)

  7. AMATEUR WELTERWEIGHT
CJ Beard (171) VS Cody Zeimer (169)
WINNER: Cody Zeimer at 1:54 of Round 1 - Zeimer stopped the bout himself.

  8. AMATEUR HEAVYWEIGHT
Kaleb Moir (240) VS Eddy Card (243)
WINNER: Kaleb Moir at 1:52 of Round 1.
Bout was stopped due to a severe cut over Card's eye caused from a punch by Moir.

  9. AMATEUR "CATCH WEIGHT"
Jordan ( JC ) Chandler (153) VS Tim Rowley (158)
WINNER: Jordan ( JC ) Chandler when Tim Rowley said he could not continue after round 1 due to blurry vision.

  10. AMATEUR SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT
Phil Shiplett (270) VS Luis - Louie / Zamudio ( Luie Zamudio) (292)
WINNER: Phil Shiplett at :41 seconds of Round 1 from Heel Hook.

  11. AMATEUR WELTERWEIGHT
Sterling Preston (156) VS Brian Merrill (157)
WINNER: Brian "The Madman" Merrill by KO at :41 seconds of Round 1.
Merrill had EXCELLENT hands that EXPLODED on Preston... I don't mean he was just throwing hands... He was throwing TIGHT and Powerful "BOXER" Punches. Nothing Wild. What was wild was his aggressive style, so I don't mean Wild Sloppy, I mean Wild EXCITING when I gave him the nickname, "The Madman!"

  12. ISCF AMATEUR IDAHO STATE BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE
    • Justin Erickson (134) VS Michael Wells (Right, 134)
WINNER: Michael Wells by Tapout at 1:14 of Round 2.
After one round, Wells had won all three judges cards 10-9, but the soon to be Champion didn't want to leave it to the judges as he turned it up in round 2. However, even though he won round 1, word was back in his corner, he felt as if he was already defeated. The outcome of this bout surprised everyone, especially when we later heard Wells was telling his trainer in the corner after round 1 he could not continue. However, somehow he came back and captured a moment to reverse himself from sure defeat to Champion! As they say in the fight game, It's never over till it's OVER! And with that being said, Wells took this win to the limit. Both have already agreed to a rematch, lets hope it happens...

  13. ISCF AMATEUR IDAHO STATE LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE
    • Bobby Earley (155 VS Brandon Hempleman (Right, 155)
WINNER: Brandon Hempleman by Figure Four choke at :53 Seconds of Round 3.
Tattoo Artist (And we mean that literally, he owns his own Tattoo Studio...) Hempleman was clearly a home town crowd favorite on this night, and the masterfully Tattooed Fighter didn't let his fans and hometown down. This was an exciting bout by both fighters and unknown to the soon to be Champion, he had to do what he did to take home the belt. After round 1, Earley had won the decision of 2 of the three judges. After the second round, he had won all three judges cards. Unknown to Hempleman though, he could not let it go to the cards being down 20-18, 20-18 and even on one judges card, 29-29.

BY ISCF Representative: Chuck Wolfe:
Patrick Smith and his Cage Championship Crew put together another well run, Championship-caliber event. This day came in like a Lamb but the event came out like a Lion. Twelve well matched and very entertaining bouts kept this sell out crowd on its feet throughout the evening.

But, Referee Cook steps in to stop time, taking a point from Caldwell for grabbing the cage while he was attempting his ground and point, causing Caldwell to lose a point. Caldwell regains his focus and takes Turntine down and slams him against the cage. Turntine reverses and Caldwell moves to guard, with Turntine looking to get past it. The action lulls momentarily and Referee Cook stops the bout to have the ring doctor check on Turntine's nose, but the doctor determines to let the fight continue as both fighters are ready to go! Turntine throws a solid front kick, but Caldwell answers with a series of solid blows, forcing Referee Cook to step in and stop this war!

IBL Opening Kick-Off Date
CHANGED

The ISCF has had a high number of requests from Amateur MMA Fighters torn between fighting for their IBL (International Battle League) Team on Saturday night of the ISCF MMA World Classic or competing in the actual Tournament at the ISCF MMA World Classic (May 2nd, 3rd & 4th) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The problem is, due to safety issues, fighter's can't do both.

A lot of "OPEN" Division fighters were being asked to represent their IBL Team at the Tournament in the inaugural IBL Kick Off event that was planned to take place on Saturday night of the Tournament. However, this plan has now been changed so that the Open Class fighter's can instead fight for the $1,500 ISCF MMA World Classic Tournament Belts.

"We were surprised about the numbers of Open Division fighters who brought up this valid and justifiable issue." Said ISCF President Steve Fossum. "They wanted a chance to win the top belt in Amateur MMA but also wanted to represent their IBL Team in the Opening IBL Event on Saturday night. We believe this is a smart move for both the IBL and the ISCF. It will give us a better opportunity to focus on the IBL Kick Off event as it's own event and allow more experienced Amateur MMA Fighters a chance to fight for the ISCF World Classic Belt."

The IBL "Kick-Off" Event will now take place in Kansas City with a venue yet to be announced. The proposed IBL "Kick-Off" date has now been moved to the first week in April, either the weekend of April 4th or April 11th. Four IBL Teams will still "Kick-Off" the Season but it is yet to be confirmed exactly which Teams now will be a part of the IBL "Kick-Off"

The IBL "Kick-Off" event is an event the IBL will be filming to produce a marketing DVD to help IBL Team owners attain season sponsorship as well as a way to market the IBL overall. The actual IBL Season is still scheduled to begin the first week in June. For more info go to www.IBLFights.com

Schultz, Nelson Defend Belts
Mc Givern Wins IFL Title In Las Vegas

3-1-2008 - Story By Jerry Milani

World Class Fight Center, Team Quest Take Camp Victories
LAS VEGAS, February 29, 2008:
Lightweight Ryan Schultz (North Platte, NB) and heavyweight Roy Nelson (Las Vegas) defended their respective International Fight League titles and middleweight Ryan McGivern (Bettendorf, IA) won his first belt before 3,931 at the IFL event tonight at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Schultz ground out a unanimous decision over John Gunderson (Medford, OR) to retain his title, maintaining strong position throughout the match. Most of the bout was contested on the ground, with both fighters escaping potential chokes in the final two rounds.

Nelson earned a first-round TKO victory over Fabiano Scherner (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) to defend his heavyweight crown. Nelson took Scherner down midway through the round and used a flurry of right hands to secure the stoppage at 3:20.

In what many felt was the best bout of the night, McGivern topped defending champion Matt Horwich (Portland, OR.) by unanimous decision in a battle in which both fighters had strong moments. Horwich nearly secured an armbar at the end of the second round, when McGivern was likely saved by the bell. In the closing seconds of the fourth round, McGivern delivered a series of strikes that staggered the former champion, but the champion held on until the bell.

In the camp vs. camp matchups which preceded the Championship bouts, World Class Fight Center and Lion's Den/Team Quest were victorious. Rafael Dias (Fort Lauderdale, FL.) starting things off well for Mario Sperry's WCFC in its win over Team Tompkins with a victory at 145 lbs. over Santino Defranco (Tempe, AZ) by way of rear naked choke submission two minutes into the first round. At 185 lbs., hometown favorite Josh Haynes (Las Vegas, NV) defeated Leopoldo Serao (San Francisco, CA) via unanimous decision to even the camps at one win apiece. WCFC took two out of three bouts when Alexandre Ferreira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) recorded a rear naked choke over Lew Polley (Coconut Creek, FL.), just 0:20 into the first round.

Jake Ellenberger (Omaha, NB), representing Team Quest, decisioned Pat Healy (St. Louis, MO) to open his camp's matchup with Ken Shamrock's Lion's Den. Schultz's win over Gunderson secured the triumph for Team Quest, while Nelson's win provided the final 2-1 margin.

Prior to the team matchups, Ian Loveland (Portland, OR) submitted Dennis Davis (Las Vegas, NV) via guillotine choke in the second round of their featherweight contest.
